This is a great question and one that deserves some attention. One thing to think about when asking yourself this question is how formal do you want your wedding to be?
Tuxedos
There has been a recent trend and incline in men wearing suits at their wedding. I have always been an advocate for tuxedos on your wedding day. I do suspect that it may have something to do with current trends and maybe even financial reasons. Now something else to think about: If your bride is wearing an extravagant, luxurious (and probably pretty expensive) dress, it might be a good idea to match. If that is the case than a tuxedo is the choice for you. A suit next to an expensive wedding gown is less attractive when compared with a tuxedo. Tuxedos will always be the staple of elegance, they will defy trends and last forever. When you look back on your photos 10 or 15 years from now, you won’t regret your tuxedo decision.
Suits
Now, if your planning something a little more casual and you are not concerned with looking over the top formal then a suit is a great option. There are plenty of suits that look fantastic when fitted properly. Suits are good options on hot days, primarily because it is one less layer that your groom and groomsmen will be wearing (no vest). This might be nice if you’re having a summer wedding or a destination wedding. Now there are wedding suits, this is a suit that usually has satin trim and a matching vest that goes with the jacket. At that point, I recommend going with a tuxedo. Suits do tend to be a little bit more comfortable than tuxedos given that with a suit you don't need to wear patent leather shoes. All the being said, suits are still formal attire and look fantastic.
And so...
Ultimately, the decision is yours. Some key items to take away from this short blurb is the fact that tuxedos are more formal, hands down. If you are looking for a “Cinderella” wedding then do not settle on suits. Suits are more casual and would fit perfectly next to a more casual wedding gown.
Tuxedos = Formal Elegance
Suits = Casual + Comfortable
